uPVC vs Aluminium Windows: Which Is Right for Your Kota Home?
It's the first question almost every homeowner asks us at our Kota Experience Centre: uPVC or aluminium? After ten years and more than 200 projects a year in Kota alone, our honest answer is that neither system is universally "better" — they're built for different priorities, and the right choice depends on your specific opening, orientation and budget.
Thermal and acoustic performance
uPVC offers strong thermal and sound insulation with a classic profile. The material itself doesn't conduct heat the way metal does, and a well-sealed uPVC frame does a genuinely good job of keeping Kota's summer heat and road noise out. If your priority is a quieter, cooler room — especially for a bedroom facing a busy road — uPVC is usually the stronger starting point.
Strength and sightlines
Aluminium offers slimmer sightlines and greater strength for larger openings. Where uPVC frames need to stay relatively chunky to maintain rigidity over a large span, aluminium can go slimmer while still supporting bigger panels — which is why it's become the default choice for large glazed living rooms, corner windows and wide sliding doors in the contemporary villas we build across Kota and Jaipur.
Maintenance
Both systems are genuinely low-maintenance compared to older timber or bare steel windows — neither needs repainting, and both resist warping. In our experience there's little practical difference here; it comes down to the finish and hardware quality more than the base material.
So which should you choose?
As a rough guide from what we see across our Kota projects:
- Choose uPVC for bedrooms, road-facing rooms, and openings where thermal/acoustic performance matters more than a wide glass area.
- Choose aluminium for living rooms, large sliding doors, and any opening wider than a standard window where a slim frame and structural strength matter.
- Many of our projects use both — uPVC for bedrooms and quieter rooms, aluminium for the living room's large glazed wall.
The right answer almost always depends on the specific opening, not the whole house — our technical team walks through this room by room during a site visit.
